into sunlight
retreat!

too hot
warm night
five frogs
on lily pads
sing songs
to fireflies
five princess swans
bow their heads
to five frog princes
and pay homage
with waterlilies
caroler of dawn
summer rain
sings softly
over butterfly wings
and sage leaves
with a curtsy
i accept
summer's invitation
to dance
in his warmth
midnight heat
heavy with moisture
so thick and stifling
even the crickets
are silent
sharing secrets

on dandelions
